We decided to take Juliet and Lillie to Hangzhou for New Year's. Hangzhou is a city about 2 hours by car from Shanghai. It was dubbed by Marco Polo 7 centuries ago as the most splendid city in the world. We figured if it was good enough for the guy who invented that great swimming pool game we all played as kids then it was good enough for us.
Here's a photo collection of our few days:
The city sits amongst rolling hills and surrounds a huge lake:
Here are the three lovely Richardson gals trying to keep each other warm:
It was nice to see a sunset not shrouded in smog:
On the lake outside our hotel they had a water and light show ala the Belaggio in Las Vegas:
Here's a pic of the man-made bird's nest that housed the bird that crapped on Scott:
Who says you have to go to a college football game to see the Goodyear Blimp on New Year's Day ... a little glimpse of home that brought tears to our eyes:

I think I found your blog on April Nooteboom's blog... maybe? I'm not sure. No matter how I found it, I have loved starting at the beginning and reading each post. I'm all the way through and now I'm excited to read what you'll post next! My husband and I traveled to Vietnam in 2006 to adopt our daughter, but we were only there two weeks, which is the extent of our travels abroad. We loved the experience, but were definitely ready to come home! Maybe we would have felt differently knowing we were going to live there. (I am not saying Vietnam and China are the same by any means, just that the culture shock is probably similar. I probably didn't need to say that, but I'm sure you already think I'm crazy since I don't even know you.) Anyway, I just wanted to let you know I'm reading your blog and enjoying your adventures so much. I hope you don't mind me following along! I do wonder, after reading all the way through and not seeing a post dedicated to this topic, if you ended up adopting Lillie. You seem to have integrated her into your family so beautifully! I know it's none of my business, I was just curious!
